CCB-Specific Pad Compound

A low-metallic resin pad compound reinforced with steel, copper, and aramid fiber, made for ceramic discs: stable to about 750 °C, roughly 0.44 average friction, strong fade resistance, low rotor wear.

Lower Unsprung Mass

A carbon-ceramic rotor weighs roughly half of the equivalent iron disc. Less rotating, unsprung mass lets the suspension follow broken pavement more cleanly and makes steering response noticeably sharper.

High-Temperature Stability

The carbon-silicon-carbide friction matrix keeps working at temperatures that push iron rotors into heavy fade, so the tenth hard stop feels like the first — same pedal travel, same bite point.

Rust-Free Rotor Surface

Ceramic discs cannot flash-rust. After rain, a wash, or weeks of parking, the rotor face behind your open-spoke wheels stays clean — no orange ring on a freshly detailed car.

Winter & Cold-Weather Braking

A cold, untuned carbon-ceramic disc needs more pedal than iron on the first winter stops — normal material physics. StopFlex engineered the pad formula and disc coating specifically for cold starts, closing that gap: cold-car winter feel is now very close to summer feel. Keep a little extra distance on the coldest mornings; for harsh winters, choose Street Spec.

Front Caliper

The front caliper is the AP Racing CP9560 Radi-CAL II 6-piston monoblock. Its stiff one-piece body keeps piston deflection low under heat, so pedal feel stays firm and consistent through repeated hard stops.

Rear Caliper

The rear caliper is the AP Racing CP9541 Radi-CAL II 4-piston, matched to the 380mm rear rotor to add rear thermal capacity and balance the front upgrade. On R172 trims with an electric parking brake, we integrate the factory EPB function into the rear setup.

Heat Management Note

Carbon ceramic rotors tolerate extreme surface temperature, but they do not remove every heat-management requirement. During repeated hard stops, heat still soaks into pads, fluid, seals, calipers, wheels, and nearby components. For long track sessions, mountain descents, or sustained aggressive driving, brake cooling and high-temperature fluid are still recommended.

Will this kit actually fit my specific R172 trim, or is it a generic platform kit?

It is built for your confirmed trim, not the R172 platform as a whole. The SLK55 AMG and SLC43 use different front knuckles, hub geometry, and wheel clearance than an SLK250/300/350, so we machine trim-specific brackets and set rotor-hat offsets to match your exact car. We confirm the caliper mounting and hat stack against your build before anything ships.

What wheels do I need to clear these 380mm rotors?

The 380mm front and rear rotors require a minimum 19-inch wheel. Diameter alone is not enough, though; spoke shape and barrel clearance around the AP Racing CP9560 also matter, so send us your wheel details and we will verify caliper-to-spoke clearance before you buy.

How do these carbon-ceramic brakes behave in winter and cold starts?

A cold carbon-ceramic disc naturally bites a little less than cold iron on the first stops—that is physics, not a fault. We tuned both the pad compound and the disc's ceramic coating for cold operation, so cold-car braking now feels very close to warm summer feel. On the coldest first stops, leaving a bit of extra following distance is still smart until the discs come up to temperature.

Why go carbon-ceramic on an SLK/SLC instead of a factory iron parts swap?

There is no mainstream off-the-shelf BBK for the R172, which is why owners try to adapt W204 or E-Class parts. This kit removes that guesswork: the carbon-ceramic rotors cut unsprung and rotating mass over iron, resist fade far better on track days, and shed the brake dust that coats SLK wheels.
