Keep Your Factory Calipers?
The rule is simple: front factory calipers must be 4-piston or more; the rear has no limit. A 1- or 2-piston floating front setup cannot take direct-replacement discs — that car needs the Full Upgrade kit with calipers. We build to the factory rotor specs above. Aftermarket calipers (Brembo, AP Racing, Alcon, Wilwood) work too — send the caliper model, pad shape, and rotor size for confirmation first.
Spoke profile and offset also affect clearance — confirm your exact wheels before ordering.

CCB-Specific Pad Compound
A low-metallic resin pad compound reinforced with steel, copper, and aramid fiber, made for ceramic discs: stable to about 750 °C, roughly 0.44 average friction, strong fade resistance, low rotor wear.
Lower Unsprung Mass
A carbon-ceramic rotor weighs roughly half of the equivalent iron disc. Less rotating, unsprung mass lets the suspension follow broken pavement more cleanly and makes steering response noticeably sharper.
Winter & Cold-Weather Braking
Winter question, straight answer: untuned ceramic discs bite less when cold. StopFlex optimized the pad compound and the rotor's ceramic coating for cold operation, so cold-start braking in winter feels very close to warm-weather braking. Extra following distance on freezing first stops is still smart; severe-winter daily cars should run Street Spec.

Heat Management Note
Carbon ceramic rotors tolerate extreme surface temperature, but they do not remove every heat-management requirement. During repeated hard stops, heat still soaks into pads, fluid, seals, calipers, wheels, and nearby components. For long track sessions, mountain descents, or sustained aggressive driving, brake cooling and high-temperature fluid are still recommended.

Does this fit both my M550i and the M550d with the factory front calipers?

How does this brake behave in winter cold starts?
A cold carbon-ceramic disc naturally bites less than cold iron on the first stops. That is physics, not a fault. We tuned both the pad compound and the disc's ceramic coating specifically for cold starts, so winter cold-car feel on this M550i/M550d now comes very close to summer feel. On the coldest first stops, leave a little extra following distance until the front discs and pads are warm, then response returns to normal.
Can I keep my factory calipers and electronic parking brake?
Yes. This is a Direct Replacement kit: carbon-ceramic rotors, pads, hats, and floating hardware that reuse your existing G30/G31 calipers. The rear rotors are supplied with the correct hat geometry for the factory integrated electronic parking brake, so the EPB continues to function without modification. Nothing is cut or re-drilled.
Will these discs handle repeated high-speed and track braking on a heavy xDrive car?
That is exactly the use case they are built for. The M550i/M550d is a heavy, fast chassis that loads the front 374mm or 395mm rotors hard during repeated highway stops and mountain descents. The carbon-ceramic discs run cooler under repeated heavy braking, and the matched pad holds up to about 750 °C with strong anti-fade behavior at an average friction coefficient near 0.44. Fade you might feel with tired factory iron on a track day is largely removed.
