Zeekr 009 Carbon Ceramic Brake Upgrade

The Zeekr 009 is a spaceship. It's fast, luxurious, and silent. But it has one massive problem: Inertia. When you load this MPV with passengers and luggage, it approaches 3 tons. Physics doesn't care about luxury features; stopping that much mass from highway speeds generates incredible heat. The stock floating calipers struggle to manage this energy, leading to brake fade when you need confidence the most. This build isn't just about looks—it's about upgrading the safety envelope of a heavy family hauler.

Do electric MPVs need carbon ceramic brakes? For heavy EVs like the Zeekr 009 (2.8+ tons), Carbon Ceramic Brakes (CCB) offer a critical safety advantage. They withstand temperatures up to 1,700°C, eliminating the "soft pedal" brake fade common in heavy vehicles, while significantly reducing unsprung weight to improve suspension comfort.

The 3-Ton Elephant in the Room

Most EV MPVs suffer from the same issue: High weight combined with high torque.

  • Heat Soak: On a long descent or during repeated highway braking, standard iron rotors get saturated with heat. Once they overheat, braking distances increase dramatically.
  • Suspension Stress: The 009 uses sophisticated air suspension. Hanging heavy iron rotors on the hubs forces the suspension to work harder, making the ride feel "crashy" over sharp bumps.

Build Spec: TTSPORT EMB6 + StopFlex

We chose a setup that balances extreme performance with daily drivability. We replaced the front sliding calipers with rigid fixed calipers and swapped all heavy iron rotors for carbon ceramic.

Vehicle Zeekr 009 (EV MPV)
Front Caliper TTSPORT EMB6 (Forged Monoblock 6-Piston)
Front Rotor StopFlex 380mm CCB (Carbon Ceramic)
Rear Rotor StopFlex 380mm CCB (Enlarged Factory Fit)
Brake Lines TTSPORT Braided Steel Lines

⚠️ Technical Note: Forged Monoblock

The TTSPORT EMB6 is a "Monoblock" caliper. Unlike cheaper 2-piece calipers that are bolted together, this is forged from a single block of alloy. This provides superior stiffness, meaning when you stomp on the pedal, the force goes into the pads, not into flexing the caliper body.

Why Carbon Ceramic on an MPV?

This might seem like a race car part, but on the Zeekr 009, it serves a luxury purpose.

1. 1,700°C Heat Resistance

StopFlex rotors are made from Carbon-Silicon Carbide. They can handle temperatures that would literally melt a standard iron disc. This means consistent braking power, whether you are driving solo or fully loaded with 6 people.

2. Silence (Low NVH)

In a silent EV, brake squeal is unacceptable. StopFlex carbon rotors are engineered for low NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness). They operate silently, matching the quiet cabin of the 009.

3. Corrosion Free

Iron rotors rust after one rainy night. Carbon ceramic never rusts. Your wheels stay clean, and the hubs look pristine forever.

4. Unsprung Weight Reduction

StopFlex rotors are ~40% lighter than the iron equivalent. Saving ~10-15kg per corner allows the Zeekr's air suspension to react faster, smoothing out the ride quality significantly.

Zeekr 009 FAQ

Q: Does this affect the Zeekr 009's regenerative braking?
No. The regenerative braking is handled by the electric motors. The physical brakes (friction brakes) only engage during hard stops or when coming to a complete halt. Upgrading them does not interfere with the EV system logic.

Q: How does the rear brake upgrade work with the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB)?
The rear kit uses an "Enlarged Rotor" strategy. We retain the factory rear caliper (which contains the EPB motor) but mount it on a custom bracket to accommodate the larger 380mm StopFlex rotor. This keeps the parking brake fully functional.

Q: Will 380mm rotors fit my wheels?
380mm rotors typically require 19-inch wheels or larger. Since the Zeekr 009 comes standard with 19" or 20" wheels, this kit is generally a direct fit without clearance issues.
