Porsche 718 Boxster (982) Carbon Ceramic Brake Upgrade

The Porsche 718 Boxster (982) is widely considered one of the best-handling sports cars ever made. However, even perfection has limits. Many spirited drivers find the stock braking system lacks the consistent, linear feedback needed for ten-tenths driving. To solve this, we engineered a bespoke "Hybrid" brake upgrade: combining the legendary Porsche GT3 6-piston front calipers with a specialized Brembo 4-piston rear system, all anchored by StopFlex Carbon-Ceramic rotors.

The Struggle

For the track enthusiast or canyon carver, the standard 718 brakes present specific challenges:

  • Inconsistent Pedal: Under heavy thermal load, the stock system can suffer from a "soft" or inconsistent pedal feel, making it difficult to modulate braking force accurately.
  • Brake Bias: As power levels increase with tuning, the factory brake bias may not offer the optimal front-end bite needed for late braking.
  • Unsprung Weight: Heavy iron rotors are the enemy of suspension response, dulling the 718's otherwise telepathic steering.

Technical Specification

This is a complete Custom Big Brake Kit (BBK) overhaul. It upgrades the calipers to a mix of OEM-plus and motorsport-grade components, paired with lightweight carbon-ceramic rotors, fitting perfectly within 20-inch wheels.

Vehicle Porsche 718 Boxster (982)
Front Hardware Porsche GT3 6-Piston Caliper + 400mm CCB
Rear Hardware Brembo 4-Piston Caliper + 390mm CCB
Weight Saving ≈ 22 kg (48 lbs) Total Reduction
Pad Material StopFlex Low-Dust Ceramic Compound

Compatibility Redline

This is a Custom Big Brake Kit (BBK) application. It upgrades the front axle to Porsche GT3 6-piston fixed calipers and the rear to Brembo 4-piston calipers. This system requires a minimum of 20-inch wheels for clearance.

Engineering Validation

1. GT3-Level Modulation

By adapting the 6-piston caliper from the 911 GT3 to the lighter 718 chassis, we achieve incredible clamping force and pedal stiffness. Combined with the 400mm (15.7 in) front StopFlex rotor, the modulation becomes perfectly linear, allowing for precise trail-braking deep into corners.

2. Mid-Engine Agility

StopFlex carbon-ceramic discs are over 45% lighter than comparable iron rotors. Reducing unsprung mass on a mid-engine car has a magnified effect on handling. The car settles faster over mid-corner bumps, and the steering response becomes even more immediate and tactile.

3. Fade-Proof Endurance

With 400mm front and 390mm rear rotors, the thermal capacity of this system is immense for a car of the 718's weight. You can run lap after lap at maximum attack without any hint of brake fade, ensuring your confidence never wavers.

4. Seamless Integration

The specialized Brembo rear caliper solution ensures that the electronic parking brake (EPB) remains fully functional, while providing the increased clamping force needed to balance the massive front GT3 calipers.

In-Depth 718 Bespoke FAQ

Q: Why use a Brembo rear caliper instead of a matching GT3 rear?
The 718 uses an electronic parking brake (EPB). Integrating a standard GT3 rear caliper with the 718's EPB is complex. We selected a specialized Brembo 4-piston rear caliper that allows for seamless EPB integration while providing the clamping force needed to balance the massive front GT3 calipers.

Q: Will this setup fit under 19-inch wheels?
Generally, no. A 400mm front rotor paired with a large 6-piston caliper like the GT3 unit requires a 20-inch wheel for safe clearance. Some very specific motorsport 19-inch wheels might fit, but 20-inch is strongly recommended.

Q: Is this system noisy for street use?
No. Despite the race-bred hardware, the system is engineered for refined street manners. Our pad compound ensures smooth engagement without the harshness or squealing often associated with track-only brake setups.

Q: Does this eliminate brake dust?
Yes. The ceramic pad compound produces virtually zero dust. This is a massive improvement over the standard pads, keeping your wheels clean and protecting the finish.

Q: What is the lifespan of these rotors?
For a street-driven 718, StopFlex long-fiber rotors are effectively a "lifetime" component. They resist wear and oxidation far better than iron, eliminating the need for frequent and expensive rotor replacements.
